STEM Popularisation Initiatives
The Department of Curriculum Management has embarked on several science popularisation initiatives to promote science education in primary and secondary schooling.
EU STEM Projects
The Department of Curriculum Management is the national contact point for Scientix – the community for science educators in Europe.
Professional Development Initiatives
The Science Education Officers within the Department of Curriculum Management organise several professional development sessions for teachers at all levels. An ongoing professional development initiative is currently addressing the various aspects of teaching Science and Technology to students in the Core Curriculum Programme.
Education for Sustainable Development initiatives
Environmental, economic and social aspects of sustainable development basically relate to the preservation of the integrity of nature, eradication of poverty, and removal of social injustices, developments which are essential for the promotion of welfare of current and future generations.
All these dimensions can only be fruitfully and effectively realised if the actors are suitably educated to understand the values (including the ethical ones) underpinning sustainable development and to participate in relevant and appropriate action conducive to sustainable development.
Pedagogy & Assessment
Successful schools are organised around learning. Their principals are knowledgeable about effective pedagogy and about what works for the individual needs of different students in their particular contexts. They create opportunities for professional learning communities to flourish throughout the school so that teachers can work collaboratively and share evidence-informed practice with each other.
